Welcome to my journey – a story woven with threads of resilience, determination, and a relentless pursuit of dreams.

My odyssey began in the rustic town of Delmas, just outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti. A place where paved roads and running water were distant dreams. We shared a single phone line with the entire neighborhood, and electricity was a luxury we couldn’t afford. Yet, amidst the simplicity, we found gratitude. Gratitude for being well-fed, clothed, and educated, a privilege not everyone shared. At 11, my older brother and I embarked on a life-altering journey to a middle-class New Jersey neighborhood, merely a year after the events of 9/11.

Boarding that plane marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. As I glimpsed back at my former life, I sensed the profound change awaiting me. The future sparkled with possibilities, and I was determined to seize them all.

However, this newfound life brought its own set of challenges. Fitting in became a priority, and the key to that was mastering English. Obsession took over, and every day after school, I delved into the dictionary, making it a habit to learn a new word daily. Middle school was a haze of confusion, marked by teasing and mockery. Although I couldn’t comprehend the taunts, the laughter and pointing were unmistakable.

High school ushered in a newfound ability to defend myself, verbally. Yet, like a fleeting breeze, those years passed, and I found myself packing bags for college. Florida proved to be a challenging chapter, testing my discipline and resolve. Homesickness tugged at my core, leading me back to the familiar embrace of New Jersey.

Upon my return, I enrolled in school, and three years later, I emerged from Rutgers University with a degree in finance. The journey from struggling with a new language to navigating the complexities of college life is a tale for another day.

Fast forward to the present, and I find myself navigating the intricate world of finance as a middle market insurance underwriter on the financial institutions team at a prominent insurance company. Yet, that’s not the entirety of my narrative. In tandem with my professional pursuits, I run a blog—a platform where I share insights, experiences, and the invaluable lessons life has bestowed upon me.
